Work It Out

A couple of weeks ago I made a commitment to start working out again. During my senior year in college, I did pretty well with working out and i've always had a consistent off-on relationship with it.  What I mean is, I went through slumps with working out but always got back to it eventually.

Well, when I moved to DC last summer, I didn't have access to a good gym until school started in September (paying tuition = access to the wellness center). The problem is, the wellness center is a little over 2 miles away from my apartment, and the best way to get there is by walking.  So, for a while, I used that as an excuse not to go.  Well, not anymore.  Now I am trying to make a better effort to get to the wellness center (or work out with my friend who lives around the corner in a building with a gym) at least three or four times a week.

I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite work out songs.  I also need some new songs to work out to- so if you have any suggestions please let me know!

A friend also recently advised me that with some cable plans, you can access free exercise programs on-demand. I never even accessed the on-demand feature of my cable because I thought that it all cost money. So, this past week I tried Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred.

Holy. Cow. Yall.  I only did 17 minutes because I accidentally hit the wrong button on my remote. And then I was IN PAIN for two days. Like couldn't sit down without intense pain.  So, I guess that means this thing works? I'm definitely going to give it another chance.  But word to the wise: Jillian means business. She is a little bit ruthless in the program, but I guess some of us need tough love.

Do you have any favorite workout plans? Songs? At-home workout tips?

  1. I love the shred. I run, but I also shredded like mad before our wedding and I'm pretty happy with how those photos looked. I've shredded once since those photos....

  2. So I am totally with you.. I have a love-hate relationship with working out. I went from going at least 2 hours everyday during my junior year of college (and getting WAY too thin in the process) to easing up a bit to totally losing interest. Recently, I have found a love for running (I'm a dancer first and foremost who has always HATED to run) but I've been following the Couch to 5K plan for the past 7 weeks and I went from being unable to run 3 minutes to running 3 miles.

Music wise.. these are currently on my running playlist:
    "Born This Way" Lady Gaga
"On the Floor" JLo & Pitbull
    "S&M" Rhianna
"Best Love Song" Tpain & Chris Brown
    "Can't Be Tamed" Miley Cyrus

I need heart pumping music to get me going and keep me going. These definitely help.
